all I had time for........

| |
It started with, "dad can you make...." and ended up with me saying yes for chef duty. My daughter wanted me to make her favorite pasta dish. How could I say no to that? Since the wife comes home an hour plus after me, I was able to squeeze in a few minutes in the shop.

right side of the bookcase
I have more than few hiccups to deal with on the top portion of the bookcase. I can pull the right side square and get it dead nuts. From the middle shelf to the top it is out about 1/4". The right side also has a slight cup front to back. But at least I can get it square at the front and back. I would have been happy getting just the front square.

left side
In order to get the left side square I have to push it outboard. That is hard to do when you have a clamp across the top pulling the sides inward. Haven't figured out how to push and pull at the same time yet. I took the clamp off and pulled the left side out and I was able to get it square. However, this is something that I won't be able to do to both at the same time.

I still have time to think of a solution but I have an idea on a maybe way to do it. My thought is to make a stopped dado in the top and slip it over the right side. Then somehow secure that and pull the left out till it is square and mark the top. Make the left side dado, push/pull the sides into the dadoes  and see if there is any joy in Mudville.

Another thought was to put a stretcher across the front of the bookcase and one at the back. But this may not be doable because I can't think of a way to pull the right side in and push the left side out at the same time.

trimmed and fitted a few pieces
A couple of the puzzle pieces needed some attention. One of the big triangles had an edge that wasn't plumb. That was quick to fix with a few swipes on the shooting board. The square puzzle piece had one side with a hump as did the two small triangles. I fixed all of them and it lays together much tighter . I noticed this problem after I mixed up the parts and put it back together with different edges up against each other.

cherry box
I found some cherry strips in the black hole and I had enough to make a box for this puzzle. I sawed a 45 and then shot them until I had four identical pieces. The big triangle was a handy gauge to check the inside length of the cherry sides.

it fits
I thought that I might have had made this a wee bit too small. With this clamped tight, I have about a 32nd of room on the left side and the bottom. The bottom of the box will be a piece of 1/8" plywood let into a groove. I'm undecided about a lid/cover for this.

this sucks
I don't know where or how I did this. I just noticed it when I was putting the puzzle into the box. Something else to add to the decision list which is growing rather than shrinking.
