a full house for xmas.........

| |
My son-in-law came into town today at 1500 and the house will be full for xmas. It's been a few years since Mandy got married and that she will be here, with her sister, on xmas day. I'm looking forward to it. Even though she is an adult now, I still see her as a little girl when she opens her presents.

clamps are off
I didn't have much time in the shop tonight. The plan was to get the back apron glued on and then call it quits. Nothing moved, creaked, or groaned when I took the clamps off. I was a wee bit concerned that the right side might do that. (it had the canted clamps) But I got zero action on all accounts.

setting the back apron
I will have to make a shallow dado so that the apron will slip down over the sides.

I want it flush here
I measured it and set the gauge shallow for the dado.  That way I can sneak up the depth.

almost there
Cutting dadoes with the grain isn't something that I usually do well. I tend to go below my depth line but not here. I took my time, took small bites with the chisel, and I stayed away from line until the very end. I also did my chopping from both sides going upwards from the edge into the middle. I thought this would lessen the chance of catching the wrong grain direction and removing too much.

I am shy of the end with the apron and the top. (my one more swipe illness). Once the apron is glued and cooked, I'll plane that small bit flush.

opposite side
I got a snug fit with the dadoes. I used my hand router to get to the final depth on these two. The right side I had to make a few hairs lower to get it flush with the top. With the bottom flush on both pieces  it was ready for glue up.

shifted into overkill mode
I doubled the clamps up on both sides the dado. This is where the apron straddles the side. I wanted to ensure this got clamped and closed up tight. Tomorrow I'll put a couple of miller dowels in the top to help it stay flat.

It's pizza for dinner tonight from the Big Cheese. Mandy told me there isn't anything even close to this place in North Carolina. No complaints from me with pizza.
